• Here are a few reminders of the etiquette for online discussions:

    • Treat each other with respect even when their opinions differ from yours;
    • Avoid slang terms and texting abbreviations (“u” instead of “you”);
    • Avoid using cap lock feature;
    • Limit and possibly avoid the use of emoticons; not everyone knows how to interpret them;
    • Be cautious when using humour or sarcasm as the tone is sometimes lost in an email or online discussion and your message might be taken literally or offensively;
    • Make posts that are on-topic and within the scope of the course material;
    • Take your post seriously and review and edit your post before sending it;
    • Use clear and concise language; be respectful of others’ time and attention;
    • Always give proper credit when referencing or quoting another source;
    • Avoid short generic replies (“I agree”); you should include why you agree and add to the previous point; and
    • Be open-minded as this is one of the major points of participating in online discussions.
